Thoughts On The First Seven Minutes of 'Speed Racer'

By B-Side in

• Susan Sarandon's skin looks nice.

• Hey, there's the paralyzed guy from Friday Night Lights.

• This is sort of weird.

• I like that random hand-drawn sequence.

• I never watched the original series; so nostalgia is not making this more enjoyable.

• The animé fans are going to be so annoying about this.

• There's something sort of fun about this hyperkinetic, colorful clip. But I don't want to see two hours and fifteen minutes worth of it.

• This sort of looks like Mario Kart.

• I'm gonna buy Mario Kart this weekend.

• I'm sick of fanboy cinema.

What are your thoughts?

I'm calling it right now. Biggest bomb since Heaven's gate.
120 Million budget? I'll be lucky to break half that in the box office. It just has problems written all over it. Is it a kids movie? Nobody knows, or understands. Emile who? The guy from Lost? Christina Ricci chosen over Elisha Cuthbert? That's the deal breaker for me, and probably half the male population. It does have a Chimp, but that still probably won't do it for me.

I'm calling 40 mill at the box office this weekend, figuring that Goodman will throw at least 2 mill in his Roseanne residuals to ticket sales. Everyone's going to be in line for Ironman again this weekend.

We'll see how it goes. If you see someone posting under the name "Hookedmyfish" you'll know I was wrong.

Keep it up Bside. I need something to do in my spare time!

Looks like I'm not the only one with a Mario Kart reaction:

I DID watch the original series as a kid and loved it, so it cannot compare to that. Plus- no way I'll see this movie b/c it DOES have a chimp in it and I'm against using apes in the entertainment industry for a number of reasons. With the kind of budget they had for this flick, they could have CGI'ed little Chim-chim in it.

I love Mario Kart!
