Bitches and Moles on '24'

I was so delighted with last night's episode of 24, if only for the curt, testy interchange between Janice and Billy Walsh. I believe it went something like this:

Billy: "You're such a little bitch."

Janice: "YOU'RE a little bitch!"

And scene.

This, people, is what we've been waiting for all these years. Sure, we've endured countless bouts of underling crabbiness, but never before has there been such a perfectly snippy bit of hostility. What a wonderful use of the "B" word. It made me almost almost forget the groan-inducing appearance of Morris, Chloe's unlikely husband who has somehow survived this show's notorious abattoir of characters. C'mon, 24. You took away Curtis, but you've spared Morris? It's just not fair.

Luckily, Morris didn't hang around for too long, but I fear he'll be back, especially after he warned Chloe that it could be dangerous in the FBI. He'll probably have to swoop in and save her, which should give the producers another opportunity to include some blatant vehicular product placement. Nevertheless, I tend to think Chloe will be able to fend for herself well enough without her boozy betrothed, but who knows. At least she got a good crack or two in at Larry Moss's expense as she ridiculed his inefficient computer setup. She rightly complained that she'd be a bit too exposed in her work station, a concern Larry didn't seem to give to hoots about. Again, further proof that he's a douchebag.

Meanwhile, by having Chloe all but surrounded by flashing neon arrows, Larry managed to pique the interest of the FBI mole, who turned out to be... (drumroll please)... Billy Walsh! Aha! Turns out all those shifty looks he'd been giving all season weren't misdirection. He really was just as shifty as he appeared! I guess we should have suspected as much when he grounded his wife's plane ahead of the queue (not to mention the fact that he's screwing the bony girl with the sun damaged face). We can only hope that the collected braintrust of Janice, Larry, and Chloe will figure things out sooner rather than later.

Of course, being the asshole mole that he is, Billy Walsh totally screwed up Jack and Renée's Very Important Mission: Operation Save-The-Idiot-Woman-Who-Will-Very-Clearly-Be-Killed. Yes, Billy managed to get Jack surrounded by a bunch of cops, which meant that Dubaku's lil' piece-of-ass-turned-FBI-informant was now headed right into the jaws of the monster without any backup. Argh!! This is surely an unfortunate situation for all involved. Who will tend to Rosa? Save the waitress, save the world!

Renée, meanwhile, has even bigger fish to fry than just this waitress. That's right, I'm talking about her conscience. Thanks to Larry Moss scolding her every five minutes, Renée has become a brittle mess — as evidenced by her dramatic showdown with a mirror and a splotch of blood. Who was this stranger staring back at her? And why was she so dumb as to wipe a dead terrorist's blood on her cheek in the first place? These were all questions that I'm sure were dancing through her pretty little head, and if the previews for next week are any indication, it looks like she'll finally reach the tipping point with Jack. I'm already looking forward to her double Bauer slap. Undoubtedly, the two of them are totally gonna DO IT.

As for Dubaku, he's rapidly reaching the end of his villainy on the show. Surely he'll be apprehended soon, and then the REAL bad guy (a.k.a. Jon Voigt) will be revealed. This is the way 24 works: we get an ethnic baddie for the first half of the season and then a rich white baddie for the rest. It's all in good fun. I just wonder what role President Taylor's prissy daughter Olivia will play in all this. She was brought in by none other than Agent Aaron Pierce, who now joins Jack as being the only character to appear in every season of the show. Good for him. Of course, this just means the chances of him being killed off are now super high. I'll put it out there: I don't think he's gonna survive the season.

Speaking of surviving, things are looking not so swell for Henry Taylor, who we've been told will be out of commission for five hours in surgery. I guess this means that actor Colm Feore has other obligations. The good news for the First Gentleman is that he can always be revived and brought back to perfect health at any time. After all, isn't that what we learned in the wake of Wayne Palmer's miracle recovery from A COMA? Here's to praying for a miracle! Anything goes on 24 — which might explain why the hell that lowly nurse had the balls to tell the President of the United States that she COULDN'T see her husband. I'm shocked Alison didn't go all Renée on her ass and slap her right there. I'm sure that nurse will get hers soon enough. Maybe she'll be sentenced to three years of hard labor. And by hard labor, I mean tending to Rosa's chamber pot.

What did you think about the episode? Surprised about the mole?

She's gonna slap bauer?.....TWICE?!?!?

That can only end in torture....or sex

It was great to wake up and have this to read. Awesome. I love that Rosa didn't hesitate to sell out Dubaku.

Oh. My. God. This week's episode was AWESOME!

I did believe the slight misdirection that Janis was the mole. Little did I know it was her first stop on the bus trip to CRAZY TOWN. I can't wait until Chloe catches up with her and slaps her around a little.

I wanted to bitch-slap that little punk Billy Walsh. Seriously, can that guy get a job where he isn't portraying a total douche?

Firecat, I see sex mixed with torture. Jack can multi-task. :)

I am so glad you noticed this. I've been saying the same thing - either 24 is trying to be PC or they're insinuating minorities aren't smart enough to mastermind evil plans all on their own.

I liked this episode, but I want to punch Renee in the throat. I would welcome a plot twist where she, the first daughter, Kim, and Janeane Garafalo all died of gangrene after being stuck in a cougar trap.

At first I liked Renee, then I didn't....but now I totally love her. I think she's a great character and hope she sticks around.
