THE PARSLEY CHRONICLES: Chapter 10 — Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures

Who would have thought the Parsley Chronicles would become such a dramatic saga? Here I thought it would be an amusing photographic journey from seed to plant, but instead, it's turned into a roller coaster ride of expectations and dreams — all of which seem poised to come crashing down at any moment.

Last week, the Obama Sprout brought hope and optimism to my cup of fledgling parsley. Alas, while I still maintain hope, it's become apparent to me that hope alone will not save this poor plant. That's why today, I took matters into my own hands and attempted a Hail Mary procedure in an effort to revive this parsley to its fullest potential.

The gritty photos after the jump...

Things have been looking quite dire in the parsley cup lately.

Here's the parsley two weeks ago.

Here it is — or rather, ISN'T — today.

Only the Obama Sprout shows any signs of upward growth.

There are some other bright spots here and there — the Michelle Obamas and whatnot.

But mostly it's just a sad, pathetic state of affairs.

A veritable horticultural ghetto.

parsley-2-2-09-7.jpg
With the parsley not even tall enough anymore to extend beyond the cup's brim, I start to think that maybe I have to do something.

There's still too much potential for me to simply chuck the whole project.

I can't turn my back on the few green sprouts that dare rise above the nastiness.

I will not let the sun set on my parsley.

(even if the sun was quite LITRALLY setting on my parsley)

Like a desperate surgeon hoping to cure a Brazilian model of a raging infection, it was time to prune.

parsley-2-2-09-13.jpg
With ginger hands and steady determination, I delicately removed as many dead leaves and stems as I could.

The bounty was great.

So long, brave soldiers.

parsley-2-2-09-16.jpg
The new era is upon us.

Only time will tell if the Obama Sprout and its followers will thrive in this freshly pruned environment.

Will the operation succeed? Or is this parsley doomed forever??? Stay tuned...

Employing the scorched-herb policy I see.
Interesting plant ploy.

better late than never B!

if you were going to put your clippings in a bowl anyway, you should have just given them to Michael Phelps.

Ooh, parade rainer here. Methinks it's too soon for Brazilian amputee jokes. In other news, GO Parsley!

Your toilet and floor are so clean. I've noticed in a number of posts that you are quite the housekeeper, B. As a keeper of plants, though? Sigh.

Some of those pics reminded me of Wall-E. Specifically the current earth parts of Wall-E. I hope that your parsley will come back to face a new day. This has been a most dramatic saga, thank you for sharing it with us! :)

I just love coming here. =)

You did the right thing. Try praying to St. Fiacre, patron saint of gardening. It can't hurt at this point. Good Luck.

The graphic visuals were quite disturbing!
