The City Is Cancelled

It’s official. Well, 99% official. Whitney Port told Ryan Seacrest that The City was dunzo.

Vulture writes: “As of right now it doesn’t really look like we’re doing it anymore,” said the 25-year-old fashion designer. When asked if it could possibly move from MTV to another network, Port said, “No, at this point it’s not.”

This is terrible news for those of us loved the New York City-based series. I’ve gone on record before and said that The City is one of the best reality shows of all time, and I staunchly defend that statement. Ultimately, however, MTV simply wasn’t the proper home for it, and thus in this era of Teen Mom and Jersey Shore, it was inevitable that the adventures of Whitney and Roxy and Erin and Olivia (not to mention Joe Zee and Kelly Cutrone) would be cut short.

We’ve yet to hear an official official cancellation notice from MTV, but the outlook does not look good.

  1. That sucks. There will never be a more watchable reality feud than Olivia vs. Erin. Erin is the legitimate deal: bright, articulate and ambitious. Olivia is exactly the opposite: vapid, entitled and mostly getting by on her friends-in-high-places schtick. Erin’s ability to expose her incompetence for us to ridicule while never truly being able to upend her MTV-granted Accessories Editor role was pure reality gold.

OMG… I think I may be breaking out the “Devil Wears Prada” DVD every Thursday night.

  2. I watch Teen Mom and Jersey Shore (and a bunch of other crap), and I still loved The City. I thought they were a perfect balance of work (The City), sex (Teen Mom) and drinking (J Shore)! Now what? I have to spiral into a sex and alcohol infused oblivion? Oh wait, why am I complaining?

Oh right, because who else can I hate without Olivia, besides the awful know-it-all narcissist at my work, of course. But it’s not as pleasurable if it’s real life.

  3. Thank you for any other informative blog. Where else may I get that kind of info written in
such an ideal means? I’ve a mission that I am simply now operating on, and I have been at the glance out for such information.
