There’s a chance that last night’s episode of Community may have been its last, and what better way to go out than by mocking shlock like Glee while simultaneously serving us up a bevy of amusing musical numbers?
After the jump, check out some of the best tunes and weigh in on which one you think reigned supreme… Continue reading →
In case you hadn’t heard, the always unconventional Community is in real danger of being canceled. Anyone who saw last week’s brilliant foosball episode knows such an act by NBC would be nothing short of criminal.
Hopefully viewers will support the struggling sitcom, whose own problems echo the ones of the show’s fictional Greendale Community College. In the clip above, check out a fictional PSA for the beleaguered school featuring nearly the entire cast of Community (missing: Ken Jeong; in attendance: Pop POP!). Bonus points for a Dartmouth reference.
Community is unfairly on the edge of cancellation, which means we may no longer have gems like the above video. Here’s the back-story on this Easter Egg: apparently the writers have incorporated the word “Beetlejuice” into the show once per season. Well, this is the third season, and we all know what happens when you say Beetlejuice three times, right?
Guess what? Community had its third season premiere last night, and judging by the ratings, several of you didn’t watch. That’s probably thanks to the stealth (read: non-existent) marketing campaign to promote the show’s return. Thankfully, my DVR caught the premiere, which featured such highlights as the arrival of John Goodman, a bizarre tribute to 2001: Space Odyssey, and a jokey musical number, above.
The 2011 Primetime Emmy Nominations came out today, and generally they look pretty solid. It was the usual mix of old standbys and random new faces. The only difficult thing for me was realizing that I watch so much reality TV now that my authority on scripted fare isn’t quite what it used to be. No problem though: an uninformed opinion has never stopped me from pontificating.
After the jump, a look at the nominees in all the major categories and my thoughts on each one. Continue reading →
We’re baaaaack. After a nearly two month hiatus, Lisa Timmons joined me on Friday for yet another episode of Banter with Ben and Lisa. On this podcast, we talk about Prince, Community, a fight on the subway, and some behind-the-scenes gossip from the long deceased sitcom, Three Sisters (on which I was a PA). I know you all have been waiting to hear the dish on Dyan Cannon; so consider today your lucky day!
(oh and for some reason, my recording settings were off; so there’s some distortion)

Donald Glover is one of the many wonderful parts of Community, and even though the show went inexplicably dark (too dark) in the second half of this season, it’s still pretty damn funny, thanks in great part to Mr. Glover. Check out the above compilation of him bawling his eyes out on the show.
