Over the past year, various companies have sent me all sorts of cool swag, and in an effort to pay it forward, I’ve decided to compile a list of my favorite freebies (as well as a few that I did fork over some cold, hard cash for). For all you last minute shoppers out there, take heed: this might be the guidance you so desperately need.
Hey everyone. Cool news from the world of the Interwebs. I’m going to be hosting a videocast for Talk Media Networks where I talk about — you guessed it: TV! We’ve only done one show, and it’s all a bit rough around the edges, but that’s sort of the way online shows go. I’m sure it will find its voice and narrow its focus over the next several episodes, but for a “pilot,” I thought it was pretty fun.
Joining me for the first episode (which was recorded live last week on UStream) is my friend Matt Whitfield, the features editor from Yahoo! Entertainment. The two of us discuss every Housewives franchise and then some (and yes, we couch The A-List into the discussion) as well as Survivor, Amazing Race, Top Chef: Just Desserts, Raising Hope, Modern Family, Cougar Town, Community, Gossip Girl and Jersey Shore. Be sure to check it out!
And as for “Banter with Ben and Lisa,” fear not: we’ll be taping a new episode tomorrow!
I haven’t hid the fact that I’m an ardent Community fan (even though last night’s ep wasn’t the greatest), and as such, I will pimp out the show wherever I can. Take a look at this preview for the upcoming Halloween episode. Not sure when it’s going to play since NBC seems to be airing some God-awful Shrek Halloween special for next week, but hopefully that will die a swift death so we can get back to Greendale Community College.
Some might argue that Betty White is over-exposed, and truth is… they’re right. But I still love the lady, and while last night’s season premiere of Community wasn’t perhaps as amazing as I had hyped it up to be in my head, I did particularly enjoy Betty’s bit with Troy and Abed over the closing credits. If you missed it, take a look at the clip above, and if you want to learn more about last night’s episode, check out this very cool interview where show creator Dan Harmon explains all his pop culture references from the premiere:
Readers of this site know that I truly love Community (season two premieres on Thursday, and season one DVD is out today!!), and so I was more than excited to go on a virtual tour of the set today via the magic of the Interwebs. Shot at Paramount Studios (which I can clearly see out my window), I could have just as easily gone to the set in person, but as show creator Dan Harmon said on the tour, they were very excited about new fun ways to NOT see the media in person, and I can’t blame him. I hadn’t even showered by the time the tour started.
Anyway, it was geeky fun watching as Ken Jeong led the tour through the set, and while I couldn’t really communicate with him or the cast, I did enjoy the grainy insider view of Greendale College.
Take one (or really two) actors from Mad Men, add in someone from Community (or not if you count Alison Brie as one of the Mad Men actors), and throw in a Desperate Housewives scene stealer, and you have the makings for a raunchy but very funny video, courtesy of Funny or Die. I chuckled.
Modern Family has all the buzz, but I think after having watched last night’s episode of Community, it’s the Joel McHale-led ensemble that is the best new sitcom of the season. Honestly, this latest episode was genius; definitely the funniest thus far. This isn’t to detract from Modern Family whatsoever. Obviously that show is very funny too; however, at the end of the day, it’s Community that makes me laugh more.
Here’s a brief clip from the top of last night’s episode — the first of many that made me guffaw on my couch. If you don’t watch the show or haven’t seen last night’s episode, be sure to check it out. ALSO: check out this 90 second mini-episode here. (Sorry, I can’t embed it)
This video does the following for me:
A) Makes me nostalgic for real sitcom opening credits.
B) Makes me realize how much I love Community.
C) Makes me excited to know that Community is finally back this week! Hallelujah!
