It’s October, and among the fall pleasures in Los Angeles is Oktoberfest, that German celebration of the harvest or beer or who knows what. The point is that I have Germany on the mind, which means this is a great opportunity to revisit a restaurant my friends and I dropped by over the summer: Berlin Currywurst.
Ardent readers of this blog may remember that I happily visited the Silver Lake location of “Berlin Currywurst” on its opening day two and a half years ago. Since then, the plucky sausage shop has expanded into fresh new digs in Hollywood, taking over an old BBQ joint on Cahuenga and adding on a biergarten. There really aren’t enough outdoor biergartens in this city, and so it was with high hopes that I assembled a crew of people to head to Berlin Currywurst for an afternoon of beer, sausage, and outdoorsiness.
Unless you’re familiar with the brand Humanic and unless you can understand the German title of this YouTube video, you might have a difficult time figuring out what this circa 1970 German commercial is about. One thing is for certain: it clearly provided some of the inspiration for Sprockets.

Yesterday I posted a brilliant sixty-second version of Inception that was part of a competition to recreate movies in exactly one minute. Here is another submission to the contest, and it’s just as amusing in a totally different way.
Just moments ago, I was thinking to myself that I hadn’t seen a wacky Internet video in all of about two days, and like a knight in shining armor, my friend Michelle at Best Week Ever Tweeted out this insanely bizarre story about a German man who has taken on a feline bride. I don’t know why he’s done this — artistic expression or mere lunacy? — but it’s entertaining nonetheless. And so very German. Certainly puts a new meaning on liking da pussy (ohhhhhhh SNAP! I went there).
